Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros Production Background by Mary Blair (Walt Disney, 1943/45). In 1941, Walt Disney was approached by the US State Department's Office of Coordination of Inter-American Affairs and asked if he would take a goodwill trip to South America to promote American ideals. Walt also wanted to get away from the ongoing animators' strike. He turned it into a research trip and took a team of artists with him. Two films emerged from tour: Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros. One of the artist on this trip was art supervisor and concept artist Mary Blair, whose drawings and paintings are featured throughout both films. This is a rare original Blair pastel painting of a South American village and foliage on black paper, inspired by that South American trip, matted and framed to 17.5" X 15" with an image area of approximately 7" x 10". Ms. Blair's works are highly coveted by collectors, and this is a beautiful example of her work.
