Saludos Amigos/The Three Caballeros Concept Art by Mary Blair (Walt Disney, 1943-45). In Didier Ghez's great new book They Drew As They Pleased -- The Hidden Art of Disney's Mid-Century era (1950s and '60s), he writes about Mary Blair: "And by August 13, 1941 she was in Miami in-route to Latin America. As for Mary, she discovered a new world, a world whose colors were a revelation. Mary realized that the trip had changed her deeply. Back in Burbank, Mary dove into work creating concept drawings and story sketches for 'Lake Titicaca' and 'Aquarela do Brazil' sequences of Saludos Amigos. But the sequences that most impressed Mary's colleagues and Walt Disney himself was the one she developed for the next Latin American feature, The Three Caballeros." This is an outstanding Mary Blair concept pastel of a female gaucho-type character. Amazing detail in this art. Character stands 11" on light tan paper measuring 9" x 12". Excellent example of the transformation of art style by Mary Blair. Pinholes in the corners and light handling wear. Very Good condition.
