Description

Retta Scott - Walt Disney's Cinderella Big Golden Book Cover/Record Sleeve Design Painting Original Art (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1950). Retta Scott (1916 - 1990) was the first woman to receive screen credit for her animation work at Disney. This very fine artist designed this wraparound cover for a Big Golden Book with a very cute but slightly off-model image of Cinde. The publishers seemed to love it (on an onionskin paper overlay, "Retta, we all like this very much" is written in red pencil along the left side), but ultimately it was not used for the book. However, the design did see print in 1950 as the image for a 45rpm record picture sleeve, with slightly altered art (we've included a color photocopy of the sleeve for reference). This book cover art is delicately painted in gouache on heavy illustration board measuring approximately 15" x 11" with an image area of 10.5" x 8". All notes and sketched-in title are on the overlay. This rare piece of Retta Scott artwork is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
