Description
Renaissance Review "The Friendly Executioner" Preliminary Concept Art by Disney Legend Marc Davis for Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG, 1987). This preliminary concept art design by Disney Legend Marc Davis was created for Landmark Entertainment Group's Renaissance Review project in 1987. Rendered in pen and color marker on a 20" x 16" sheet affixed to an illustration board and signed by Davis depicts a humorous character, "The Friendly Executioner", a cartoon bear very reminiscent of Marc Davis's Country Bears he created at Disney. The illustration reveals Davis's unmatched ability to blend wit, caricature, and theatrical flair in developing memorable personalities for themed entertainment. Landmark Entertainment Group, founded in 1980 by Gary Goddard and Tony Christopher, gained acclaim for designing groundbreaking attractions such as Jurassic Park: The Ride, Terminator 2: 3D, and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. The Renaissance Review reflects Landmark's ambition during this period to create immersive, narrative-driven entertainment with world-class artistry. Marc Davis (1913-2000) was a core Disney animator and later Imagineer, shaping characters like Tinker Bell, Maleficent, and Cruella de Vil, as well as iconic attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion. These signed 1987 concept illustrations stand as significant examples of Davis's post-Disney career and his collaboration with Landmark. Presented in Very Good condition, a rare prize for collectors of Marc Davis's animation and theme park art. From Global Theme Park Designer - The Landmark Entertainment Company Art Archives.
