    Description

Popeye the Sailor Man Story Concept Art Group of 4 (Famous/Fleischer, c. 1950s). These four hand-drawn story pitch storyboards show Popeye in a single-engine plane as he "lands on a tiny planet" where a flying robot refuels his plane, then burps the plane on its shoulder like a baby, before sending him on his way! Wow... surreal Popeye. That may explain why this appears to be an un-made short. The four pieces are consecutively numbered #96-99 and produced in color pencil on 12 field animation paper with an image area of 10" x 7.5" each. There are multiple pinholes in the corners, which indicate that is was indeed pitched at the studio, but likely not accepted. Rare Famous Studios art such as this is well-sought by fans. Plexiglas front framed together to 35" x 30.5". In Fine condition.
