Description

Popeye Concept/Publicity Drawing by Anton Loeb Original Art (Famous Studios, c. 1940s). Popeye surveys a shipwreck with treasure chests strewn about, in this fantastic drawing by Anton Loeb, who is best remembered as a "scenic" (background) artist for Famous Studios during the 1940s and '50s, although he is credited with work on a few Fleischer Studios shorts as well. This illustration appears to be done as a publicity piece featuring the Famous Studios version of the character, in his all-white sailor suit. It's a wonderful drawing in tight graphite on trimmed animation paper, with an image area measuring approximately 8.5" x 6.5". The page is hand-signed in Mr. Loeb's unique signature, in the lower right. Condition is Good, with tack holes, minor handling, and some light paper toning.
