Description

Pinocchio Stromboli Character Study Drawing by Bill Tytla Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1940). We have in this lot a rare set of four character study drawings of Pinocchio's rambunctious villain, Stromboli, created by the legendary animator Bill Tytla (1904 -1968). In the book The Disney Villain, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston write about his role animating the boisterous showman "He did not just get inside Stromboli, he was Stromboli and he lived the part." Tytla is widely renowned for his approach to conveying the characters' emotions through their expressive gestures, seen famously with the boisterous body language of Stromboli. These four 16-field 5-peghole animation sheets offer phenomenal images of the Disney Villain, including full-figure drawings and studies of his facial expressions, all created in graphite, with some showing colored pencil details. The drawings show normal age-related toning and light handling and edge wear from production. Condition is Very Good.
From the Famed Disney Animator Bill Tytla Archive.
