DescriptionPeter Pan Mermaid Concept Painting by Mary Blair Original Art (Walt Disney, 1953). "The mermaids were quite fond of Peter. Wendy tried to make friends with them, but they did not like her. Perhaps because she did not have a tail." Mary Blair's mermaids are beloved by her fans and her concept art for Peter Pan served as the cover art of the children's book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Walt Disney's Peter Pan (2009). She experimented with different color palettes for the mermaids, perhaps to showcase different personality and/or moods. This is an outstanding Mary Blair Color Key/concept painting of a mermaid resting on a rock in Mermaid Lagoon. The art is in gouache on board measuring 8" x 9". The piece shows handling wear, pinholes on the corners and a groove or crack though the center of the image that does not appear to have damaged the image and may have been in the board prior to being painting. Very Good condition.
