    Description

    Peter Pan Concept Painting by David Hall (Walt Disney, 1940). David Hall (1905-1964) began his brief career at Walt Disney Studios in the Story Department, on 3/1/39. His first assignment was Alice in Wonderland, for which he did hundreds of drawings. The drawings were first seen in the Disney children's book Walt Disney's Surprise Package. Hall went from working on Alice to work on Bambi, The Reluctant Dragon, and the studio's first pass at Peter Pan. His short but impressive time at Disney is chronicled in the great book by Didier Ghez, They Drew As They Pleased -- The Hidden Art of Disney's Musical Years (The 1940s -- Part One) on pages 166-201. This is a David Hall original concept/story painting for the Peter Pan project. Art is in gouache on trimmed board measuring 9.5" x 12". It seems a bit unfinished, depicting a scene of Peter Pan arriving on Captain Hook's treasure-heavy ship, with a very luminous sky behind him. The back of this preliminary concept/story painting reads "By David Hall Disney Prod. Peter Pan." This is a new-to-market piece, never seen before! Minor handling and edge wear. Good condition.
