Description

Peter Pan and the Indians Little Golden Book #D26 Unused Front Cover with Peter and Tiger Lily Original Art plus #D74 Published Front Cover (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1952). Tiger Lily does a special dance for the boy who saved her from Captain Hook in this wonderful alternative cover painting. The cover design that was approved and used for this children's storybook featured Tiger Lily's father, the Indian Chief with Peter Pan. That painting was by Brice Mack (1917 - 2008), who illustrated the book with fellow Disney artist Dick Kinney (1916 - 1985); this gouache on illustration board piece might be by Mack, Kinney, or it could be a collaboration between the two; at any rate, it's a wonderful, finished piece of art with the roughed-in title lettering painted on an acetate overlay. The board measures approximately 12" x 14.75" with an image area of 12.75" x 13". For comparison, we've included a cover from the second published edition (updated from book #D26 to #D74) which has had its binding and pages removed. The art is in Very Good to Fine condition with light handling and edge wear.
