Description

Paradise Lost Concept Painting by Peter Ellenshaw (c. 1983). A rare concept painting by Disney Legend Inductee, Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007) for a proposed film based on Paradise Lost, the epic poem by John Milton. The poem has always been intriguing to filmmakers so in 1983 Peter Ellenshaw and his son, special effects artist and matte painter Harrison Ellenshaw, traveled to England to present a selection of concept paintings to Stanley Kubrick. The Academy Award winning Peter Ellenshaw had created matte paintings for Kubrick's Spartacus in 1960 and they had stayed in contact over the years. The Ellenshaw's felt that a visionary like Stanley Kubrick would be perfect for Paradise Lost. But, sadly, after much discussion the project was eventually dropped. Offered in this lot is one of those rare concept paintings. The piece measures 30" x 20", rendered on board and signed by the artist. Condition is Very Good with some normal edge wear.
From the Peter and Harrison Ellenshaw Family Archive.
