Description

Oliver and Company Concept Drawings Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1988). This delightful animated feature was Disney's take on Oliver Twist, the classic novel by Charles Dickens. Here are two early studies done for the film, showing (in the first) Dodger and Oliver running through the subway station, a wallet in Oliver's mouth, with the victim running after them. It's drawn on a sheet of pan vellum animation paper measuring 15.5" x 10.25". The second drawing shows Oliver at the edge of the platform as the pickpocket victim has caught up with the frightened cat. It's drawn on two conjoined pieces of vellum paper, with an approximate size of 15.75" x 10.5". Both pieces are in dark graphite or Conté crayon, with images that extend to the paper edges. A rare look at the making of this popular animated movie, from the personal archives of longtime Disney artist and producer, Joe Hale. Art condition is Very Good with minor handling wear.
