Description

Mulan Early Mulan Character Development Concept Group of 3 by Thom Enriquez (Walt Disney, 1998). This is Mulan like you've never seen her before! Thom Enriquez, a longtime story and concept artist for multiple Disney, DreamWorks, and Bakshi productions, did extensive explorations for Mulan's design in the film and the character development concepts in this lot are three from that group. They imagine Mulan as a child rather than a teenager, her hair in adorable twin buns as she holds pet dogs and rabbits (and a sword, too, of course). Two pages are full of varied poses and expressions full of childhood innocence and the third has three additional poses for exploration. There are fifteen full figure poses in total with many more expressions, including one of Mulan with her mother and one of her with the emperor. The group has been rendered in graphite with color pencil and show just how different Mulan could have been, whether created for a flashback sequence or as a much younger protagonist. Rendered in graphite with color pencil, two were created on thin tan 12'' x 9'' paper and another on 8.5'' x 5.5'' paper. Two drawings on the smaller page have been trimmed and attached, and all of the pages have been signed by Enriquez. Good condition with light age-related toning and faint edge and handling wear.
From the Noted Disney Concept and Story Artist Thom Enriquez Collection.
