Much Ado About Nutting Sandra Squirrel Concept/Animation Drawings Group of 2 Art (Warner Brothers, 1953). In this delightful Chuck Jones-directed cartoon, Sandra is an urban squirrel who invades a downtown nut stand, working her way from peanuts to walnuts to Brazil nuts, and finally to a coconut -- which she can't open, even when she pushes it up the stairs and drops it from the roof of the Empire State Building! Sandra is one of Chuck Jones' cutest creations, and here she is in a pair of early drawings done for this short. In the first, which can be seen online at the 1:41 mark, Sandra's got a peanut in her paw, but she's eyeing the walnuts nearby. Art is in graphite on 12 field 2-peghole paper, with a figure size of 3.5"; the number 4 is written in the lower right. The second drawing shows the moment Sandra spies the coconut stand; you can see this at the 2:22 mark, but onscreen, Sandra's eye's get even bigger than they are here. This piece is in red pencil and graphite, with a figure size of 6.25". We believe this one to be a concept piece, as there are no numbers. It has a mild vertical crease that slightly touches Sandra's tail, and both drawings has light paper toning. Overall condition for both drawings is Very Good.
