Mr. Bug Goes to Town Character Development Drawings Original Art Group of 4 (Max Fleischer, 1941). This charming group of seven character/concept drawings was created for Fleischer Studio's second animated feature film (after Gulliver's Travels). The feature would be their last, and what a pity – it was a beautifully done project that fell victim to bad timing. The world premiere was held on Friday, December 5, 1941 with a general release planned for Christmas; the following Sunday marked the event that drew the US into World War 11 when the navel base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was bombed by Japan. Time has been kinder to the film, which underwent extensive restoration; a 2012 showing of an archival print on Turner Classic Movies revealed just how excellent the animation originally looked. These original character drawings include three drawn in red pencil, featuring Swat the Fly (2) and Jeepers Creeper the snail. The other four pages are in graphite with a variety of secondary characters, including Smack the Mosquito, and settings, like a "coffee pot" restaurant and the hive-shaped Honey Shop. Minor handling wear, with paper toning and fold creases on a couple of pages. Very Good condition.
