Mickey's Grand Opera Mickey Mouse Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1936). Mickey taps his monogrammed podium in this original concept/layout drawing from this Wilfred Jackson-directed short released in theaters in March of 1937. This short is a who's who of classic ‘30s Disney character such as Pluto, Donald, Clara Cluck, and Clarabelle Cow all set in a Romeo and Juliet style opera, "Bella Figlia Dell'Amore" from Verdi's Rigoletto. This beautifully detailed drawing of a full-figure "Pie Eye" Mickey in his conductor's outfit complete with baton is rendered in graphite with an image size of 5" x 4.5". It is from early in the development of this cartoon as the podium and dais were ultimately changed to a stand with rails that rises from the orchestra pit. This is one of those rare perfect poses that Mickey collectors are always on the lookout for. The piece is in a 17" x 15" frame under Plexigas with a mat opening of 7" x 5.5". Condition is Very Good and the Frame is sold as-is.
