Description
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse at EPCOT Preliminary Art by Ed French with Reference Materials Group of 5 (Walt Disney, c. 1980s-90s). Walt Disney World artist Ed French was tasked with creating an image of Mickey and Minnie standing before EPCOT's Spaceship Earth geodesic sphere, based on a thick-lined coloring illustration used in a newspaper ad. He of course did a fantastic job! Here's a small original color thumbnail of Ed's illustration from his personal archives, done with graphite, color pencils, and a small amount of gouache on a 3.75" x 4.75" piece of onionskin paper, with an approximate image size of 2.5" x 3". It's taped to a 4" x 6" scrap of white paper. Included with the art are two different-sized Xerox prints of the line art version of the final illustration, and the original newspaper tearsheet with the Mickey and Minnie coloring art.
