Description

Merbabies Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1938). Merbabies is a Silly Symphony that was released in 1938. It is one of only two Disney cartoons to be outsourced to another major American animation studio. It was produced at MGM by Rudolf Ising and Hugh Harman, as Disney's studio was swamped with work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the time of the short's development. This wonderful concept drawing depicts the cheerful circus parade from the short that takes place at around the 2:48 mark. The bottom of the page also lists some ideas for members of the parade. It is rare to find concept art from early Silly Symphonies like this one! The piece is rendered with graphite on 12 field, 2-peghole animation paper. This excellent concept drawing is in Good to Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear, including some smudging, age-related toning, and pinholes from use in the development process of the short.
