Mary Blair Song of the South Br'er Bear and Br'er Fox Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1946). Mary Blair spent a week in Atlanta and other Georgia locations doing preliminary research for Song of the South. John Canemaker writes in his book The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, that she did artwork for costume ideas, settings, and mood for both the live action and animated sequences. This is an outstanding concept painting of Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear toting the tar baby on a log to set the trap for Br'er Rabbit. Magnificent gouache painting on illustration board, with an unusually large image size of 13.5" x 11". We love the deep blue, cloudy sky! The art board has pinholes in all four corners, with minor handling and edge wear; overall, in Fine condition. This is one of the most stunning Mary Blair paintings for Song of the South that we've ever seen!
