Mary Blair Peter Pan Never Land Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). "There it is, Wendy. Second star to the right and straight on till morning." Getting to Never Land couldn't be easier! Capturing the moment seen at the 20:30 mark of the animated adventure classic Peter Pan, this is a magical original concept painting in which Never Land appears out of the stars. Created as only Disney Legend Inductee Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) could, neon pinks and glowing greens highlight this eye-catching piece, and the Jolly Roger subtly hides in darkness in the center of the composition. Peter Pan was the last Disney animated feature film on which Mary Blair lent her talents, her bold colors informing much of the fantastical elements in the final film. Disney director Wilfred Jackson once said of Mary's influence on the animators, "...even when the styling aspect of a picture was not especially stressed, we still drew or painted our own parts of the production differently than we would have done if we had seen no styling sketches at all..." A magnificent piece, this painting is rendered in gouache on 10.75" x 9.75" illustration board. A protective sheet of tracing paper is mounted to the back and folded over the image. The piece shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners. The condition is Very Good.Auction Info

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.View More Testimonials
