Mary Blair Peter Pan Jolly Roger Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). In this classic animated feature, Captain Hook's pirate ship plays a large role. It houses Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and his band of Pirates, but it also is taken over by Peter Pan in the film's finale, to fly the Darling children home to London. This is a brilliant gouache on board painting of the Jolly Roger as it is sitting in Neverland, by Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). A full moon is off in the distant, as Tinker Bell flies near the ship, with its Pirate flag flying high. Peter Pan would be the last animated feature Mary Blair would work on for Walt Disney. The artboard measures 10.5" x 9.25". The ship itself is a staggering 7.5" tall. This is one of the most impressive pieces of concept art featuring the Jolly Roger we have seen to date. Pinholes in corners and minor handling wear. Very Good condition.
