Mary Blair Peter Pan Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1952). This is a charming image of Peter Pan and Wendy wistfully gazing at Neverland island. Created by Mary Blair as a pre-production concept illustration, it's one of Disney Studios' earliest attempts to visualize J. M. Barrie's classic children's book. This would be artist Blair's last feature film project for Disney as she opted for a career in advertising; however, she was lured back in the early 1960s to help design Disneyland's "It's a Small World" attraction.
The painting is in oils on illustration board, with an approximate image area of 16" x 7". The piece was lacquered years ago, but the slightly yellow hue of the lacquer does not distract from Blair's wonderful sense of design and color. Mary Blair's stylized Disney paintings are eagerly snapped up whenever they are offered, and we expect a lot of interest in this little beauty as well. Don't go flying off to Neverland without placing a bid first!
