DescriptionMary Blair Peter Pan Captain Hook Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). "Odds fish! And just what do you think you're doing Mr. Smee?" asks Peter in the guise of Captain Hook. This is an original concept painting of Captain Hook, with sword in hand on skull rock by Disney artist and color stylist Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). Author John Canemaker writes on page 60 his book The Art and Flair of Mary Blair: An Appreciation, "Shapes in Peter Pan (leaves, trees, rocks, ships tepees) more than ever resembled a collage. The look anticipates the actual cutouts Blair would use for 'It's a Small World' decade later." This original gouache painting on 12" x 6" board of Captain Hook showcases reds, yellows, blues, all under a foreboding sky and is pure Blair. It's in a 22.5" x 16". There are pinholes in the corners, minor edge wear and handling on the art. Overall condition Very Good. Frame is sold as is.
