DescriptionMary Blair Peter Pan Wendy and the Mermaids Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1953). "While the boys were off being captured, Peter took Wendy to visit the mermaids. They were very beautiful and excellent swimmers, but they were not always nice." This is written in the book Walt Disney's Peter Pan by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson with pictures by Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). As color stylist on this film, Mary Blair made several concept paintings of the mermaids testing out a variety of different color palettes. This oversized gouache on board concept/Color Key painting is one of the few we have come across showing Wendy encountering the mean-spirited mermaids. It's a wonderful composition with the colors of the sky, foliage, water, clouds and rock all blending perfectly. The painting is in a frame of 30" x 17" with a mat opening of 20" x 7". The art shows light handling and condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
