Mary Blair "It's a Small World" Surfers Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1964). "Surf's up!" Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1991. In Pocket Full of Colors: The Magical World of Mary Blair, Disney Artist Extraordinaire by Amy Guglielmo and Jacqueline Tourville, with illustrations by Brigette Barrager, the book tells the story of Walt Disney asking Mary Blair to take on the "Small World" project. The book reads, "Yes, said Mary Blair. But her yes came with a condition. This time, Mary wanted to be in charge. Walt welcomed her aboard, and the 1964 World's Fair Small World attraction was underway." This is an original concept painting by Miss Blair from the Polynesian/Hawaiian section of "It's a Small World," with a great boy and girl surfing image as a friendly turtle swims nearby. Amazing color palette, painted in gouache on light board measuring 14" x 9". Tack holes in all four corners with minor handling wear. In Very Good condition.
