    Description

Mary Blair "It's a Small World" Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1964-66). "It's a small world after all, it's a small, small world!" A very large piece, this is a fantastic original concept painting created for the "It's a Small World" attraction at Disneyland by the hand of the great Mary Blair (1911-1978). Featuring the iconic hot air balloons seen during the Dutch section of the ride, this beautiful and BIG piece presents the signature flat, bright colors for which Mary Blair is celebrated. The stark white and the bright shades of blue pop right in front of the contrasting black background in an exceptionally eye-catching way. In The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, John Canemaker writes, "It's a Small World represents a new pinnacle in Mary Blair's career. After a decade of freelance jobs that rarely challenged her... here was a project she deeply cared about, working for someone who always inspired her best work." Rendered in gouache on a whopping 18" x 12" illustration board, this piece shows minor handling and edge wear with pinholes in the corners. The condition of this magnificent piece is Very Good.
