Mary Blair "It's a Small World" Child Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1964). In John Canemaker's book, The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, chapter six opens with Marty Skylar saying, "Walt remembered artwork of children made for Saludos Amigos. He said, 'We have to get Mary to do it!'" Mary Blair had left the Disney Studio by this time and was working on children's books, greeting cards, and other illustration art jobs. This project, originally conceived for the 1964/65 World's Fair (and eventually for all Disney Theme Parks) inspired Mary to new heights. This project and attraction may have been her greatest achievement in art. Here is a rare concept painting of one of the children of the "Small World," a young girl from the Middle East. All pieces of Mary Blair's concept art for Small World are rare and highly coveted. Gouache on board of 10.5" x 9". This is a nice-size Blair painting. As always, her use of color is stunning. Pinholes in the corners. Fine condition.
