Mary Blair - Fiesta of the Flowers Concept/Color Key Paintings Group of 2 (Walt Disney, 1943/45). Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) was part of the studio group that went on Walt Disney's South American Goodwill tour in 1941. On page 117 of Charles Solomon's book, The Disney That Never Was he writes, "When he returned, Disney initially planned to make 12 short cartoons with Latin American themes, but during the summer of 1942, he decided to package the shorts in groups of four and release them as features." The two resultant movies were Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros. This lot is a pair of concept/color key paintings by artist Mary Blair and they were created in the development of one of the unmade shorts originally proposed titled Fiesta of the Flowers. The pair of hand-signed gouache on board paintings show a gaucho paddling his flower boat to a secluded jungle gazebo. One painted in a daytime pallet, while the other in nighttime. Both share a common frame. The artwork on the right is hand signed in the bottom border by Mary Blair Both paintings are in one common frame of 24" x 17" with dual mat openings of 6" x 5". Condition is Very Good. Frame is sold as-is.
