Description

Mary Blair Dumbo Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1941). Little Dumbo and his mother drink from a pool in this very early concept painting by the legendary Disney artist, Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). The art is very similar in style to a painting on page 69 in the Didier Ghez book They Drew as They Pleased: The Hidden Art of Disney's Mid-Century Era/The 1950s. This was created prior to Mary's participation in Disney's South American Goodwill Tour, a trip that proved transformative and helped to inspire her trademark style and use of vibrant colors. At this time in her career, her style was slightly muted and heavily influenced by that of her husband Lee. This absolutely adorable graphite and watercolor rendering featuring the title character is on 8" x 6.25" cold-press watercolor paper. It's a one-of-a-kind treasure from a classic Disney film and an important piece of Mary Blair history. It shows minor handling and pinholes in the corners. Condition is Very Good.
