    Description

    Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts Character/Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). "Off with her head!" The short-tempered Queen of Hearts is featured here in glorious fashion in an original character design painting by the hand of Disney Legend Inductee Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). Blair's character work was often created in the early stages of a film's development, and this stunning design remained almost entirely intact all the way to the end of production. The heart-shaped scepter, the three-pronged crown, the red and black dress, her spoiled disposition, it's all here! Alice director Wilfred Jackson said it best: "There is much more to Mary's designs than just the surface look, or unique appearance of them. Contained, also, within her designs is an expression of Mary's own response as a sensitive artist, to what the thing is, or the creature, or the person is -- not just how it looks." This wonderful piece is rendered in gouache on 8.25" x 10.25" illustration board. It shows handling and edge wear with mild debris/scuffing near the edges. There are pinholes in the corners, and the condition overall is Very Good.
