Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1951). "It's rude to sit without being invited!" says the March Hare to Alice as she stumbles upon this strange gathering at the Mad Hatter's "unbirthday" tea party. This is a wonderful concept painting from the scene that can be found at the 42:37 mark. Mary's magic was utilized in a number of classic Disney animated features, always through vividly colored gouache concept paintings like this. Although her abstract-looking images rarely found themselves onscreen exactly as she painted them, her Alice art was used in certain scenes, particularly the "March of Cards" sequence. The art is open-front framed with an opening of 8.5" x 7.25", with an approximate overall size of 10" x 8.5" x .75". There are tack holes in the outer border areas, but very minor handling wear. Fine condition. From the Robert Forbes Collection.
