    Description

Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Cheshire Cat Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). "Can you stand on your head? However, if I were looking for a White Rabbit, I'd ask the Mad Hatter!" says the Cheshire Cat as he takes his head off, stands on it, and then puts it back in place, continuing to confuse Alice in her search for the White Rabbit. Sterling Holloway was the voice for this fan-favorite character. This is an outstanding Mary Blair (1911 - 1978) original concept/Color Key painting of this scene, created with gouache on board. There's a great full moon peeking out between the trees. This exact painting can be seen on page 93 in Didier Ghez's great book Disney: They Drew As They Pleased - The Hidden Art of Disney's Mid-Century Era (The 1950s and 1960s). Mr. Ghez opens his chapter on Mary Blair with a Marc Davis quote: "She was the most amazing colorist of all time. I don't think even Matisse could hold a candle to her." This fantastic painting is matted with an opening of 9.5" x 8", and framed with glass for an overall size of 14.5" x 14". Frame is sold as-is, artwork has minor handling and is in Very Good condition.
