Marc Davis - Walt Disney World Cowboy Concept Sketch Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1970s). The Western River Expedition was a proposed "dark ride" for Walt Disney World, as an answer to Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean. The thought was that a historical recreation of the US Western Expansion would be more exciting, but fans in Florida kept asking, "where are the pirates?" Eventually, the Western ride plans were scrapped in favor of a second Pirates attraction. Marc Davis, one of Walt Disney's celebrated "Nine Old Men," did a number of sketches for the proposed ride over the course of five years, including this splendid rough of a cowboy on horseback with a barking dog. The art is in graphite on 16 field animation paper, with an image measuring approximately 12" x 11.5". Art is unsigned but verified to be by Marc Davis. In Good condition with handling, edge wear with tears, and stains.
