Lady and the Tramp Lady Character Development Painting by Jack Miller (Walt Disney, 1939). Jack Miller was one of the three founding members of Joe Grant's Character Model Department. He began on 10/11/37 and did extensive work on character design through 1942. His work was seen on Fantasia, The Reluctant Dragon, Dumbo, and early treatment work on both Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp. Many of his drawings would be used for published studio model sheets. His career is extensively detailed in Didier Ghez's great book They Drew As They Pleased -- The Hidden Art of Disney's Late Golden Age (1940s Part II). Joe Grant would say of Jack Miller, "He was a very droll, very retiring, charming, brilliant character." This is an original character development painting of Lady by Jack Miller, done during the first pass under the direction of Joe Grant. Miler's drawings would be used for the studio's first series of model sheets. His work also can be seen in the Giant Golden Book Walt's Surprise Package to illustrate a story called "Lady." Painted in gouache on textured board measuring 9.5" x 8.5". Lady is a full-figure image measuring 6". Jack Miller originals from the first pass of this film are considered very rare. Light surface wear; overall Very Good condition.Auction Info
