Hank Porter - WWII USS Molala Insignia "Little Hiawatha" Design (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). The Abnaki-class tugboat, the USS Molala (ATF-106), was launched on 12/23/42 and named after the Molala people of Oregon. The Molala was stationed in Hawaii during 1943 and also in the Marshall Islands towing damaged ships to the shipyards at Pearl Harbor. This adorable design was drawn by Hank Porter in graphite and color pencil on trimmed onionskin paper. The image area is 8" tall. The very first American military insignia to be used on an airplane was an Indian symbol. Little Hiawatha was Disney's #1 Native American used for WWII insignias. In Fine condition.
