    Hank Porter - "Toby Tortoise" World War II Insignia Preliminary Art (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). Toby Tortoise was among the classic characters enlisted for the studio's World War II Insignia Program. Here is Hank Porter's original preliminary artwork for a Toby Tortoise design, created for the 124th Infantry Division. This was a Florida-based unit who fought as part of the 53rd Infantry Brigade, serving in the Philippines during World War II. This image can be seen on page 158 in the book Characters of Military. This Hank Porter (1900 - 1951) original is graphite with red and blue pencil on trimmed paper measuring 9" x 7". Characters are nice 5" images in this exceptional design. Minor handling wear. In Very Good condition.
