Hank Porter - Mickey and Minnie Mouse Thanksgiving Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1947). Hank Porter began with Walt Disney Studios in 1936 and worked there up to a year before his death in 1951. He was the head of Disney publicity artwork and supervised the Disney WWII Insignia Artwork Division. Porter was also one of the main artists for the Disney Good Housekeeping Art unit. This is a prime example of his work in this area -- the preliminary rough drawing of Mickey and Minnie Mouse as pilgrims. It was used for the cover of the November 1947 Western Family magazine -- the Thanksgiving Issue. The media are Conte crayon, graphite, and gouache. The artwork has the word "Ruff!" written on the lower margin. Porter also was one of the first artists approved to do Walt Disney's trademark signature, and we see a prime example of Porter's work with that signature at lower right. Amazing detail on 8.5" x 12.5" layout paper. Mickey and Minnie are 7"-8". A bonus copy of the finished magazine allows a direct comparison with the conceptual art. In Fine condition.
