Description

Gulliver's Travels Rare Early Lilliputian Gate Concept Art Signed by Louis Jambor (Fleischer Studios, 1939). This 1939 feature film adapted the story of Gullivers Travels, following a doctor who washes up on the island of Lilliput. The film was directed by Dave Fleischer, Willard Bowsky, and Orestes Calpini and featured a variety of stunning background art. This lot includes an outstanding piece of rare trimmed early concept art of the Lilliputian castle gate created and signed by background artist Louis Jambor (1884 - 1995). Jambor only worked on backgrounds for this feature and for the short Once Upon a Time, making his work incredibly hard to find. This stunning graphite and gouache background looks to have been created to conceptualize the castle gate in the film, particularly for the scene at about 1:04:52 when Gabby rushes to the castle at dawn to tell everyone war has been declared. The background measures about 9'' x 12.25'' on 10'' x 12.25'' background board. Good to Very Good condition overall with minor edge and handling wear, tape along the edges, and faint residue.
