Description

Gulliver's Travels Early Gulliver and Lilliputians Concept Painting Original Art (Fleischer Studios, 1939). This lot features a rare early original concept painting of Gulliver and the island of Lilliput from the OSCAR® nominated film Gulliver's Travels. The film was Fleischer Studio's response to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, directed by Dave Fleischer, Willard Bowsky, and Orestes Calpini. Scenic artists working on the film included Louis Jambor, Robert Little, Shane Miller, Erich Shenk, Terry Lind, and Robert Owen. This concept painting is rendered beautifully in graphite with gouache on 3-peghole background board and captures Gulliver as he leans over and smiles at the diminutive Lilliputians, who are scrambling in their houses. The detailed concept measures about 9.75'' x 8'' and is similar to the moment at about 47:58 in the film when Gulliver stands, admiring all of their hard work after they repair his clothes and give him a good scrub. There are so many little details that fans of the animation will love, including guards and a Lilliputian on a horse. The concept measures about 9.75'' x 8''. Good condition overall with minor edge and handling wear and residue along the border and back.
