    Description

From A To Z-Z-Z-Z Layout Drawings Group of 6 (Warner Brothers, 1957). "Chuck -- It might work better to have opening window broken from inside house -- Mother has real motive for sending Ralph upstairs..." So writes Maurice Noble (1911 - 2001) to director Chuck Jones on one of the six pages of layout drawings for this second Ralph Phillip cartoon. This exact page of notes can be seen on page 57 of the book The Noble Approach - Maurice Noble and the Zen of Animation Design. This short was released on 4/20/57. Six whole pages of concept/design drawings from this short from the skilled hand of Maurice Noble. Drawings are rendered in graphite with red highlights. Great images from the opening "cannibal village" scene which takes place among pineapple-shaped huts. Also included are some drawings from the early scene with the lion in the jungle. All six pages are on 12 field Disney 5-peghole paper, which is interesting -- Mr. Noble must have had an inventory from his Disney days! Five of the six pages are hand-signed by the artist. His long partnership with Chuck Jones would result in some of the greatest cartoons in history which continues to inspire filmmakers to this day. Minor handling. In Very Good condition. From the Maurice Noble Archives.
