Fishin' Around Mickey Mouse Gag Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1931). This short featured Mickey and Pluto going fishing in an area where no fishing is allowed. It was directed by Burt Gillett and released on 9/14/31; animation was done by heavyweights Les Clark, Norm Ferguson, and Johnny Cannon. This is a rare series of gag/story sketches where Mickey actually gets the worms for the fishing trip, a segment that was not animated. Interesting graphite gag artwork on 12 field 2-peghole animation paper, with five panels showcasing Mickey, the worms, and a pesky bird. The bottom of the page reads, "Mickey laps wrist on accent beat, bird nails worm on next accent beat while Mickey is picking up another worm. Bird lands on perch each time Mickey slaps, leaving in time to catch worm in midair." This is a fascinating look into early Mickey Mouse cartoon development. The animation sheet is in a protective plastic sleeve. Minor handling and edge wear. In Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
