Description

Fantasia "The Nutcracker Suite" Mushroom Dancer Concept Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). This is an outstanding original concept drawing featuring the mushroom dancers from the unforgettable "Nutcracker Suite" segment of Walt Disney's landmark masterpiece Fantasia. Animator Art Babbitt is said to have credited The Three Stooges as a guide for animating the dancing mushrooms in the Chinese Dance routine. He drew with a music score pinned to his desk to work out the choreography so he could relate the action to the melody, saying "those nasty little notes underneath... so something has to be related to that". This drawing is rendered masterfully in color pencil on studio bond paper, offering an alternate scene to what finally appears in the film. The image showcases a mastery of atmospheric depth and dramatic lighting, influencing the look and feel of the final scene. Art direction of the segment was headed by Robert Cormack, Al Zinnen, Curtiss D. Perkins, Arthur Byram, and Bruce Bushman, with story development by Sylvia Moberly-Holland, Norman Wright, Albert Heath, Bianca Majolie, and Graham Heid. This incredible surviving drawing from the making of Fantasia is presented in a 19.25" x 17" glass frame with a mat window size of 12" x 9". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The piece shows overall minor handling from normal use in production with slight age-related toning. It bears an official studio "Concert Feature" stamp on the reverse side. Overall, the condition of this rare find is Very Good.
