Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Princess Aurora Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "Touch the spindle... touch it I say!" Maleficent commands Princess Aurora to fulfill the curse and prick her finger on the spinning wheel thus putting her to sleep for eternity. In this lot is an original concept/Color Key painting of the Princess in a deep sleep with flowery vines trailing through the windows to convey the passage of time. It's a stirring image and beautifully painted in gouache on 15" x 6" board by Disney Legend Eyvind Earle. Mr. Earle worked as background artist and color stylist for Disney studios throughout the 1950s and went on to become a successful respected fine artist with his own gallery in Carmel, California. This poignant image is a perfect summation of the title and theme of this classic Disney animated fairytale. The original one-of-a-kind piece is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Minor handling and pinholes in corners. Condition is Very Good.
