Eyvind Earle - Sleeping Beauty Prince Phillip, Samson, and Maleficent as a Dragon 25" x 10" Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1959). "Wait, Prince Phillip. The road to true love may be barred by still many more dangers which you alone will have to face. So arm thyself with this enchanted Shield of Virtue. And this mighty Sword of Truth. For these weapons of righteousness will triumph over evil." Created by the distinguished Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000), this lot features an awe-inspiring concept painting showcasing the dramatic final fight between the courageous Prince Phillip and the fearsome Maleficent in her dragon form, seen at the climactic end of the Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty. Measuring a substantial size of 25" x 10", this stunning gouache painting is a great example of Eyvind Earle's capabilities to render evocative scenes that spark the imagination, inspiring the events at the 1:09:24 mark of the film, all created with frugal brushstrokes forming strong shapes and a masterful selection of colors and shades that grant life to this sensational piece signed by Earle in the bottom right corner. Illuminated by Maleficent's spectral green fire, Prince Phillip stands heroically armored with the Sword of Truth and the Shield of Virtue as his loyal companion, Samson, rears behind him. The desolated landscape is flooded with an eerie mist, where the towers of the Forbidden Castle glow ghostly with the reflection of Maleficent's fire, all featuring the dexterous approach of Eyvind Earle to detailed textures accomplished with slight touches. This lot is offered floated on a 36" x 21.25" Plexiglas-fronted frame. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
