Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Dragon Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "Thou sword of truth, fly swift and sure, that evil dies and good endure!" Good Fairy, Merryweather recites this incantation as Prince Phillip throws his sword into the chest of the dragon. This original concept/Color Key painting of Maleficent as the dragon is by Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 -- 2000). The dramatic composition painted in gouache on 15" x 6" board is almost devoid of color save the bright red blood streaming from the dragon's chest. Framing this dark image of Maleficent's defeat are toppled remnants of her castle and the snaking vines of thorns conjured to repel Prince Phillip. This incredible one-of-a-kind painting of good triumphing over evil is signed by the artist Eyvind Earle in the lower right. Minor handling, pinholes in corners. Condition is Very Good.Auction Info
