Eyvind Earle Sleeping Beauty Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "NO, it cannot be! Now you shall deal with me, oh Prince... and all the powers of hell!" These are the words of Maleficent after she watches Prince Phillip, with the aid of the three good fairies, continue against all odds with his rescue efforts. This is one of the most detailed "Good vs. Evil" finale color key/concept paintings we have seen from the hand of Disney Legend inductee Mr. Eyvind Earle (1916 – 2000). The painting showcases Maleficent, standing tall as a dragon with a charging Prince Phillip on Sampson with his "Sword of Truth" in hand. The painting also showcases the thorn-ridden castle and the castle moat entrance bridge. Flag masts covered in thorns are throughout this masterpiece of a painting. This may be one of the best Dragon paintings we have come across. Gouache on board of approximately 14" x 6", and signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Minor handling and edge wear. Pinholes in corners under the mat. Mat sold as is. Very Good condition.
