Eyvind Earle - Signed 30" x 12.5" Forest Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1959). "I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream..." This original production design/concept painting by Disney Legend inductee Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000) was created in development of Walt Disney's Technirama animated feature Sleeping Beauty. The forest is in the style of the final backgrounds of the film, with its angular rock formations, trees and undergrowth, and luminous sense of depth. This piece is featured in the 1958 book The Art of Animation by Bob Thomas on page 176, seen in Chapter VII: Background and Color. Earle created a small number of these paintings in a wide Technirama format in his overall planning of important scenes in the film. Paintings of this size and detail are especially rare, and some of the most sought-after artwork from the career of Eyvind Earle. This piece measures a staggering 30" x 12.5", rendered masterfully in gouache on board. It is presented in a 37" x 19.5" mat with a window size of 30.5" x 12.75". Signed by the artist in the lower right, this astonishing painting was exhibited at The Walt Disney Family Museum in Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle (May 2017 - January 2018). Remarkably well preserved, this painting shows minimal handling and edge wear, and the condition is Very Good.
