Eyvind Earle Man in Space Concept/Color Key Paintings Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1955). Ward Kimball directed this episode that aired on 3/9/55 on the Disneyland Show, followed up by the episodes "Man in the Moon" and "Mars and Beyond." "Man in Space" was shown as a featurette and was also theatrically released with Davey Crockett and the River Pirates. The short was nominated for an Academy Award. This is a rare set of four concept art/color key paintings by Mr. Eyvind Earle (1916-2000). Earle is a Disney Legend Inductee, and Earle artwork from this series is rare. These hail from longtime Disney artist Joe Hale's personal collection. He has written notes on these pieces in graphite, on the reverse. These are gouache on board of 7" x 6". The color palette is pure Eyvind Earle. Stunning portraits and studies, similar to the faces we see at the launch sequence around the 41:58 mark. Minor handling wear. A clear sheet of acetate has been placed over each painting. Very Good condition. From the Joe Hale Archives.
