Description

Eyvind Earle - Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle Signed 27.25" x 9.75" Princess Aurora Asleep Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1957). "And in yonder topmost tower, dreaming of her true love, the Princess Aurora." Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000) takes us far away to look over a window of King Stefan's castle and witness the cursed slumber of Princess Aurora with this extraordinary original concept painting for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle, featuring an emblematic image of our titular protagonist. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the second story of Sleeping Beauty's castle was empty. Imagineers envisioned a walkthrough attraction featuring wonderful dioramas based on paintings like this one by Earle. Remarkable in size and artistry, this astounding picture, rendered in gouache on a 27.25" x 9.75" board, showcases an evocative image of the princess tragically asleep, with flowering branches around her and the spinning wheel responsible for her ill-fate in the foreground, similar to the scene at the 1:02:44 mark of the film. Signed by Earle on the bottom right corner, this painting also displays some of Earle's characteristic elements, such as the texture on the stone walls and the checkboard floor. The lot is offered on a 34.5" x 17" mat, sold as-is. Presenting faint scuffing on the surface and mild handling and edge wear from production, the condition is Very Good.
