Dumbo Concept Art (Walt Disney, 1941). This is a very early story/concept painting that has Dumbo in the Big Top doing some rope tricks. Dumbo was released on 10/23/41. It was the shortest film thus far in running time of all the Disney animated feature films. Dick Huemer, who wrote the story with Joe Grant, said the original idea came from a little story strip that was given away in a cereal box. He said that he and Joe Grant wrote a chapter at a time and submitted it to Walt Disney. The piece was created using graphite and gouache on 12 field, 5-peghole animation paper. Written on the bottom right border are the numbers 30 - 4 - 47. This concept art gives you a good idea of some of the storylines that were considered. This is a very rare piece of Disney animation history. Minor handling wear, edge wear and some small pinholes; otherwise the artwork is in Very Good condition.
